OUR FACES OF THE WORLD - 1989

I grew up in Los Angeles County, California where I had exposure to the many cultures from around the world. That influence helped to inspire my creation of “Our Faces of the World.” When I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I was commissioned to paint a map for New Life Center in Everett, Washington. While painting this piece, it amazed me how a brushstroke can show the idea of global unity.

This piece shows people are connected by a common bond of humanity. I painted in mixed media by using a technique with gessoe, watercolor and charcoal after reading an article in The Artist's Magazine. It worked perfectly for the theme of the map. After three years of studying the faces from all nations and ethnicities, the painting was completed in October 1989. Prints are in businesses, schools and private homes in Asia, Africa and throughout the U.S.
